Does anyone else love Thai Tea? Or have that one friend that just can’t handle a strong drink? Put them both together and you have one of my good friends! Her mom likes to buy things in bulk and one day we were hanging out and she handed me this fat bag of Thai tea leaves because her mom had bought six. That moment I decided I would make a drink just for her and her very “sensitive” pallet. Enter the adult Thai Milk Tea (minus the boba… although that would be delicious ). If you have a friend like mine with a sweet tooth this drink is perfect! Enjoy!
-2oz Thai Tea
-1tbs Brown Sugar
-2oz Whole Milk
-2oz Koloa Hawaiian Coconut Rum
-1oz Heavy Cream
-2 Dashes Aromatic Bitters
Pour brown sugar and Thai tea into a cocktail shaker. Grab a spoon and stir till the sugar is dissolved. Fill the cocktail shaker with ice and pour in whole milk and rum. Shake vigorously for 10 seconds. Take a glass and fill it with crushed ice. Strain drink over the ice and then gently float 1oz of cream on top. Finish with 2 dashes of aromatic bitters and a straw.
Notes: You can find Thai Tea Leaves at most Asian markets (I’m from Northern California so they are not hard to find) or on Amazon and it is really simple to brew. I suggest brewing the tea the day before you plan to make the cocktail so it can chill in the fridge overnight. Any coconut rum will work. I just happen to enjoy how smooth Kaloa Hawaiian Rum is.
