“A TASTE OF LUXURY, SERVED CASUALLY”

The Juicy Root: A Unique Cachaça Cocktail Experience

There’s something deeply compelling about cachaça, Brazil’s iconic spirit. With its centuries-old heritage, it’s more than just a drink—it’s a symbol of Brazilian culture, history, and resilience. I’ve always been fascinated by spirits that tell a story, and cachaça is one that intertwines with the land, the people, and the flavors of Brazil in a way that few others do. Inspired by this history, The Juicy Root was born, merging the deep roots of Brazil’s cachaça with a touch of unexpected spice.

Cachaça is a spirit with nearly five hundred years of history, crafted from fresh sugarcane juice and distilled to perfection. It’s a drink that ranges from humble to highly refined, with artisanal cachaças offering complex, delicate notes that can rival the finest spirits in the world. The spirit itself is a product of centuries of tradition, stretching back to the 1500s when Portuguese settlers brought distilling techniques to Brazil. It was in Brazil’s sugarcane fields, though, that cachaça truly found its heart, evolving alongside the country’s agricultural and cultural roots.

With The Juicy Root, I wanted to celebrate the magic of cachaça, letting it take center stage in a cocktail that combines both warmth and complexity. Carrot juice serves as the unexpected base, its natural sweetness complementing the bold flavors of cachaça and providing a smooth canvas for the other elements. The smoky edge of mezcal adds depth, while pineapple amaro brings in a bitter yet tropical brightness that lifts the drink. Lime juice offers a touch of tang to balance the sweetness, and a dash of chai bitters creates a lingering spice on the finish.

Of course, the garnishing sprinkle of garam masala adds a final layer of intrigue—an earthy blend of spices that perfectly contrasts the citrus and mezcal. It’s subtle, but just enough to tease the taste buds and invite curiosity with every sip.

The Juicy Root is more than just a cocktail; it’s a tribute to the spirit of cachaça, an homage to its Brazilian origins, and a celebration of the way different flavors can harmonize in unexpected ways. Whether you’re a cachaça connoisseur or a curious newcomer, this drink invites you to explore the deep, rich flavors of one of the world’s most unique and beloved spirits. Cheers to Brazil, its liquid roots, and the endless possibilities of mixing tradition with innovation!

Ingredients:

1 oz Cachaça
1 oz Mezcal
1 oz Heirloom Pineapple Amaro
1 oz Fresh Cold Pressed Carrot Juice
1 oz Fresh Lime Juice
1 oz Simple Syrup
3-5 Dashes Chai Bitters
Garnish: Dusting of Garam Masala, Dehydrated Lime Wheel

Directions:

  1. Add cachaça, mezcal, pineapple amaro, carrot juice, lime juice, simple syrup, and chai bitters to a cocktail shaker.
  2. Fill the shaker with ice, cover, and shake vigorously for 10 seconds to chill and combine.
  3. Prepare a tall glass and fill it with crushed ice.
  4. Using a hawthorn strainer, strain the cocktail into the glass over the crushed ice.
  5. Garnish with a light dusting of garam masala and a dehydrated lime wheel.

Notes:

  • If you have difficulty finding cachaça, you can substitute with white rum. However, cachaça’s sweet, grassy undertones complement the flavors of the drink better.
  • If Heirloom Pineapple Amaro is unavailable, substitute with 1 oz Amaro Nonino and 1 oz pineapple juice for a similar flavor profile. Personally I purchase it online directly from their website.
